POLICE AND SAFETY

Every Police Service in the Province of Ontario is responsible for supplying adequate and effective police services as laid out in the Provincial Adequacy Standards.

Under the provisions of the Ontario Police Services Act, all Police Officers in the Province of Ontario are responsible for: preserving the peace; preventing crimes and other offences and providing assistance and encouragement to other persons in preventing them; assisting victims of crime; apprehending criminals and other offenders and others who may lawfully be taken into custody; laying charges and participating in prosecutions and enforcing municipal by-laws.
